2015 Xmax Parade poster

The 32nd annual SCYC Parade of Lights is scheduled for Christmas Eve, Thursday, December 24, 2015.  This is a very popular community event that attracts spectators from San Carlos and many surrounding areas.  Last year the event attracted a record 21 participating boats, and we hope to meet or exceed that level of participation this year.

This year six beach-front restaurants have agreed to independently judge the event for their patrons , and to provide prizes for the participating boats.  These restaurants are : El Mar, La Palapa Griega, Charly’s Rock, Gustavos (formerly El Toro), Los Arbolitos, and La Playa (formerly Fiesta hotel) .  Prizes range from dinners for two to cash awards from these sponsors.  For example, La Palapa Griega will award 3,000 pesos (about $190 USD) to their favored boat in appreciation for the efforts of the winner.  Last year’s event produced overwhelmingly positive feedback from the community and we hope to achieve the same level of appreciation this year.  Prizes will be awarded at a post-parade award ceremony at the yacht club.

We are also pleased that Steve Cammack has agreed to lead the parade again aboard his charter vessel “Hattie Annie”.  Steve is a very knowledgeable and well-respected mariner in the area and is dedicated to making sure that all the participating boats are safe during our club’s event.

The course is expected to be the same as in years past starting in San Carlos Bay and touring Bahia San Francisco as close to shore as is safe so all the spectators can easily view the participating boats from shore.  Any boat can participate that can be power driven during the event (sail or power boats).  Yacht club membership is not required and size does not matter as long as the vessel can move under its own mechanical power.  A mandatory skippers’ meeting will be held at 10:00 AM on December 24 at the yacht club where Steve Cammack will describe the course, explain the safety requirements and assign the order of boats for the event.  Marina San Carlos will provide a complimentary slip on Christmas Eve for participating vessels normally located in Marina Real. ( Advance booking required )

If you have a boat and can participate we would love to have your join us for the Parade of Lights this Christmas Eve.  If you have friends or neighbors that would like to participate, please encourage them to do so.  This wonderful holiday tradition sponsored by SCYC is highly enjoyed and appreciated by the community at large.

Please see the registration form for the 2015 SCYC Parade of Lights.
